Is it necessary that my hearing aids be fit by an Audiologist or Hearing Aid Specialist?
A few decades ago the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) would revoke an Audiologist’s C’s (Certificate of Clinical Competency necessary for an Audiologist to practice) if caught dispensing a hearing aid. In many States hearing aid dispensing is not, or was not until recently, required in the audiology curriculum.
Audiology education alone does not prepare someone to practice in a “specialty area” like Hearing Instrument Sciences. Licensing is designed to protect consumers, and many audiologists fail the hearing aid specialist’s exam.
Our Specialists are State Licensed Hearing Aid Specialists and National Board Certified in Hearing Instrument Sciences. Thank you for asking that question and for giving us the opportunity to clarify this for you!
